RePaper Campus Challenge Spurs Colleges and Universities to Reach 75% Paper Recovery Rate by 2015
Campuses Dig Deeper to Improve Paper Recycling
With the start of a new school year, a growing coalition of sustainability and recycling organizations is engaging with North American campuses to help them boost recycling by tracking and improving their paper recovery rates. From text books to blue books, paper is essential to successful campus recycling programs. Yet while paper recycling rates have slowly increased over the years, they are not keeping up with demand from manufacturers who need recovered paper to produce new, recycled-content stocks. With over 50% of paper still being thrown away on college campuses, there is a need to dig deeper and find those valuable sources of paper.

Senate Resolution 251 was introduced on August 2nd by Recycling Caucus co-chairs Senator Carper (D-DE) and Olympia Snowe (R–ME). The intent behind the non-binding resolution was to showcase the high level benefits that recycling provides the US economy, jobs, and the environment. At the same time, the bill calls for needed improvement to the current collection, processing, manufacturing and consuming of recyclables and recycled materials.....

to Recover 75% of Paper Waste for Recycling by 2015
Boise, ID - This past Earth Day, campuses across North America were called to take part in the RePaper Campus Challenge – a movement to increase sustainability on college campuses by recovering 75% of campus paper waste for recycling by the year 2015. The campaign is headquartered in the not-for-profit organization Environmental Paper Network’s RePaper Project – a program focusing on increasing paper recovery to best maximize recycled content in paper manufacturing. The Campus Challenge will teach students, faculty and staff on higher education campuses about the impacts of paper, and how best to recover it for effective recycling.....

Obama Administration seeks a 3-year deferral for permitting greenhouse gas pollution from bioenergy and other biogenic sources
Asheville, - The Obama Adminstration distributed details to the public only one day in advance of a key public hearing Tuesday on its proposed three-year loophole in regulating climate pollution from bioenergy under the Clean Air Act. The topic of the hearing to be held in Washington, D.C. is the Administration’s proposal to delay the EPA’s responsibility to regulate greenhouse gas pollution from bioenergy and other biogenic sources. The RePaper Project announced today that Limited Brands Foundation and Boise, Inc are providing financial support for the RePaper Project’s mission to increase waste paper recovery for recycling in North America.
Investments by Limited Brands Foundation and Boise are supporting a new, more sustainable marketplace of paper choices and will greatly enhance the RePaper Project’s work to develop strategic and diverse partnerships that will increase awareness and education around the needs of paper recycling. “We created our new sponsorship program in the fall of 2010 to help diversify and expand our funding sources,” stated Pam Blackledge, coordinator of the RePaper Project. “Boise and Limited are two companies that we are extremely pleased to have supporting our mission.
